Multibeam Corporation has developed an
exciting new IC lithography technology for the semiconductor industry. Based in Santa Clara, California, this start-up is focused on EBDW. Multibeam achieves high-throughput with its innovative all-electrostatic column design and multi-column architecture.


You will be responsible for the Electron Beam system set-up, alignment, adjustment and operation. This role is best suited for a leader with hands-on experience in the operation of SEMs or Electron Beam Lithography systems (mask writers, direct-write systems).


  • 5 years of experience in the operation of SEMs, or Electron Beam Lithography systems (mask writers, direct-write systems), having specific familiarity with:
    System set-up, alignment and adjustmen
    v Methods for monitoring beam current and siz
    v System operation and capability improvemen
    v Wafer/substrate patterning

  • Column assembly, alignment, and writing (basic mechanical and electrical lab skills

  • Safe operation of HV subsystem

  • System problem diagnosis and correction

  • Experimental design, data analysis and reporting

  • Team collaboration in design, operation, continual improvement


  • The basic physics behind the design and operation of this equipment

  • Experience with Schottky electron sources (operation and basic physics)

  • General knowledge of materials science, chemistry, surface science

  • Familiarity with high voltage design, construction, assembly and safety practices

  • Familiarity with UHV design, fabrication, cleaning, assembly and bake-out practices

  • Familiarity with basic electronics, both analog and digital, sufficient to assist engineers in diagnosing system problems

  • Familiarity with electron-beam resist deposition, exposure, and development methods

  • Experience using Word and Excel (including Macros for data processing)

  • Experience using PowerPoint and Project

  • Good communications skills, both verbal and written


  • Preferred: B.S. in Physics, Chemistry, MAterials Science, or engineering, or a similar field involving the use of SEMs or Lithography systems, or equivalent.

  • Preferred:  2-5 years post-graduate work experience in a demanding research or industrial environment, meeting schedules, following budgets, or equivalent.
